| About | What is the true heart of a soldier? It can only be defined or overstood by an individual who knows himself or herself and fully cooperates with God and the Universe to fulfill their unique mission here on this earth no matter the circumstances, trials and tribulations, and challenges. A true soldier for God knows the end result despite what may or may not be happening at the time. A true soldier can take nothing and out of thin air turn it into something of substance and value. Only a true soldier of God has the divine ability to positively impact the lives of all those s/he meets. Only a true soldier of God can follow the path that was designed specifically for them by God and stay on the track despite the naysayers and the faithless.
One such faithful heart lies in the spirit of a soldier named Ron Key. By the age of seven, he had already realized his mission and boldly began running and impressing all who could hear his words. It was easy to see at such a young age that he was destined for greatness. In high school, he started opening up for many legendary hip hop acts in the early stages of their careers such as the late Tupac Shakur, Nas, Foxy Brown, Method Man, and Outkast to name a few. In his hometown, Wilmington, North Carolina, he was known as Ron Key the unstoppable MC. But even with all of his grass roots success, his family doubted whether this dream of his was ever going to truly work out. Despite his unmistakable gift for not just music but also the ability to capture the hearts and minds of people, Ron was outcasted, labeled as a trouble maker, and told to just go to school or take up a trade driving trucks or working as a mechanic like so many other young black men in his generation had ended up falling into. However, even though Ron was homeless by the time he was sixteen because of his unwillingness to compromise his dream, he had a clear vision of what God expected of him and also of what God promised him-sort of like a covenant. Ron knew it wouldn't be easy but he also knew that angels were keeping him covered as long as he chose to walk on God's road. In 1997, Ron Key ends up in the new black mecca and burgeoning city for music, Atlanta, Georgia. He meets and begins to work with a talented producer who helps to form a group called W.H.O.R.E. Ron flies back and forth between NC and ATL to record. He was determined not to let anything stand in his way. It was during this time that Ron began to write some of his most prophetic and socially conscious material. But as with all people who choose to do what God wants, they are put through adversities that challenge their faith. Ron was forcibly put into a mental hospital by individuals whom he trusted. The only problem was that yet again he was surrounded by people who didn't understand him; people who were jealous of his talent and unknowingly wanted to remove him from his path. After being discharged from the hospital, Ron went back to North Carolina but only for a little while to regroup and come back even stronger. A few years later at the age of 28, Ron runs into Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in a popular club in Atlanta. The two had an instant connection and quickly became friends. Lisa worked with Ron to continue developing his craft in the industry. She had intentions of introducing him to the game but all that came to an abrupt end when she transformed from this life in Honduras in 2002. Lisa's transformation had a tremendous impact on Ron's life and how he would continue on his mission. Two years later after working with a plethora of independent artists, Ron has another chance meeting and becomes a close affiliate of the legendary Outlawz group. However, most notably during this time is his accomplishment of being selected to be the international spokes model for the men's hair care line of African Pride. With everything seeming to line up properly Ron establishes a studio house in the West End section of Atlanta called the Creative Castle, a vision that Left Eye often spoke of. In this house he records the classic mix tape, The Purple Door while mentoring young aspiring models and artists and providing a safe haven for the neighborhood kids. It was at this point that a $250,000 deal came to the table and Ron just knew that he was up to bat. During the summer of 2006, after a misunderstanding and Ron not wanting his associates to take the fall, he is placed in police custody and admitted to another mental hospital. Ironically, this time the hospital has no grounds to hold him and releases him after a week long stay. As a result, Ron loses everything including the Creative Castle and the multi-thousand dollar deal. He finds himself left to rebuild and make a way out of nothing as he had so triumphantly already done throughout his life. What would you do if you were in his position? Despite these losses, Ron did not blame anyone but himself and made a decision to keep moving toward his goal. |
