AboutHi! I'm Steve Giordano, a jazz guitarist from Philadelphia,PA. I also compose and teach private and/or master class/workshops to serious minded musicians who must possess a sense of humor. Hmm? Is that an oxymoron? I am a recording artist and have recorded on several labels - Muse (1980) "Daybreak" and recently Criss Cross with trumpet great, John Swana "The Feeling's Mutual". I have toured several countries, most recently Italy, Sicily and Spain in various jazz ensembles. My music encompasses progressive jazz, impressionistic jazz, traditional jazz, electronic music, and free improvisation - not to be confused with avant guarde, of which I'm not that into. My musical philosophy is based on musical discretion which of course expands with evolution but never to the point of losing touch with musical values.

Current Projects:
1) Spacetet - my main band - playing original compositions and harmonically expanded jazz standards. I would call this interactive band's music "impressionistic jazz". Personal: Bob Meashey - trumpet/flugle horn Peter Cobb - alto sax Brian Howell - basses John Mosemann - drums/percussion Steve Giordano guitars
2) Symbiosis a free improvisation group

3) various quartets, trios, and duos composed from this list of musicians: Eric Dutko - guitar Scott Sherwood - guitar John Swana - trumpet/EVI Joe Mullen - drums Brian Howell - bass John Mosemann - drums Dave Posmontier - organ George Mesterhazy - organ Tony Micelli - vibes Kelly Meashey - vocal Peter Cobb - alto sax John Blake - violin Kevin MacConnell - bass Mike Cosden - guitar My hope in using PhilaFunk is to network with musicians and fans of music and also to open up discussions about music and art in general. I will never sell out or dilute my art for monetary purposes. I also like to write articles about music from several perspectives including the audience's. Feel free to contact me about anything... Philly-based guitartist and composer Steve Giordano likes to write tunes amid the rolling hills of the Morris Arboretum. Some of that garden's cool autumnal tones seem to have been transplanted to this self-produced and contemplative set. Giordano, who composed six of the seven tunes — Ralph Towner's handsome "Beneath an Evening Sky" is the only import — assembles a jazz quintet recording that nearly anyone can appreciate for its understated beauty.
The quintet features a true team approach with trumpeter/flugelhornist Bob Meashey and alto saxophonist Peter Cobb enhancing the total sound more than starring in it. Bassist Brian Howell and drummer John Mosemann help carry out the group concept, teasing out subtle Brazilian vibes on "Samba Five" and "A Beauty Within" and setting the table for Giordano's ruminative plucking on "Synergy."
Giordano weaves together elements of Wayne Shorter to Maurice Ravel on this marvelously slow set, where the energy is closer to chamomile than Blue Mountain coffee.

Wishing you all the very best...
I recently found out that I'm one of 10 finalists from the music contest on here that is eligible to win $1000 at the end of the month. In order for me to win, I must have the highest amount of votes by members, album sales and overall activity on my profile.

The night of Valentine's Day (music IS my lover) I recorded a few songs and they are now for sale as well. If it's been a while since you've seen my profile, do take a listen. Please check out my myspace profile too- there's a lot more to see, read and hear there (I'm a writer and videographer as well).

*with respect and gratitude*
thank you for your time and consideration.

in love, for love, feel love, be love, with love, my love, from love
