| About | Ms. Margaret’s vocal jazz career took off in 1997 when she began her jazz studies at Columbia College Chicago. She had the fabulous opportunity to work closely with the late-great William Russo, Bobbi Wilsyn, Sebastian Huydts, Doug Lofstrom, and Frank Dawson. During her years at Columbia Ms. Margaret developed a strong appreciation (and perhaps obsession) for music theory and analysis. Her theory studies streched her limits as an improvisor and arranger.
Ms. Margaret also spent a year at Roosevelt University working towards a masters degree in jazz studies. Her time spent at Roosevelt led her to collaborating with Laurence Hobgood on her debut recording "Come Sunday". In winter of 2005 Ms. Margaret formed her own record label - Violet Records LLC. Currently Violet Records has only released "Come Sunday", but it is Ms. Margaret's hope that as her career grows, so does her independant jazz label. Ms. Margaret's career path has given her the opportunity to perform hundreds of gigs, including the following venues: -CBS Studios is Los Angeles, California (Spirit of Chicago Award presented to Jim Belushi) -The Green Mill (Chicago, IL) -The Hot House (Chicago, IL) -Jazz Showcase (Chicago, IL) -The Metro (Chicago, IL) -Park West (Chicago, IL) -IAJE Festival (The Civic Center in Toronto, Canada) -Restaurant Magnus (Madison, WI) -Monona Terrace (Madison, WI) -Ward-Brodt Music Mall (Madison, WI) On a slight side-note: Ms. Margaret's musical foundation stems from her classical piano studies which began at age 5. She continues to perform chamber music, as a church organist, and solo pianist. Ms. Margaret is a sought after teacher of piano and voice. She currently manages an Education Department in Madison, WI which holds 700 students and 30 teachers. She maintains a small teaching studio of 20 students. Ms. Margaret has found that while she absolutely loves to perform, teaching is a pure joy and a career that will last her a lifetime. |
