Raised on a steady diet of hip-hop in its young stages, GATA began her own rhyme odyssey ias a teen. She has since evolved into a well-rounded style that runs the gamut from danceable ear candy to mind-searing aggression. Her distinct flow, catlike persona, and penchant for the odd not only earned Gata her feline namesake, but made her an awesome force that is undeniable. GATA has been described as an eccentric Japanese manga-anime figure living in the standard comic book art of the hip-hop spectrum. Her influences are rich and varied: they range from Run-DMC, LL Cool J, De La Soul, and the Beastie Boys, to Prince, Digital Underground, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. She possesses a strong work ethic infused with a sense of playfulness, and strives for perfection. GATA's live show makes use of energetic choreography to enhance the performance. The self-proclaimed "Punk Rhyma" believes that dance is an essential element of the hip-hop culture and a powerful method of expression. She has been showcased at Code of tha Cuts: Project B-Girl at Vans Warped Tour, the Newark Festival of People, and performed at the African Globe Theater in Newark, among other venues. |
